In this case study, we will explore the development of SimpliDivorce, a web app designed to provide an accessible and streamlined solution for individuals seeking a divorce. The app aims to address the challenges posed by expensive lawyer fees and the complex legal process associated with divorce by offering various packages that cater to different needs.
My role
As the sole UX/UI designer, my aim for the project was to provide an experience for individuals seeking help and guidance for applying for divorce. My role as a UX/UI designer was to transform traditional divorce proceedings by creating an intuitive, accessible platform that simplifies legal complexities and reduces emotional and financial burdens. My role included conducting user research, designing clear workflows, focusing on empathy, usability, and personalization, created a supportive and user-centered solution that streamlined the divorce process and empowers individuals to navigate it with confidence.
Problem statement
Tedious manual journey, where the petitioner/respondent have to travel to the court, stand in a queue and get the forms from the clerk’s office.
After the petitioner/respondent got their forms, then to get assistance to draft the forms, they will go to the Family facilitator, who then directs the petitioner/respondent to Law Interns.
If the petitioner/respondent need assistance with any information related to calculations that help them better understand how much the legal proceedings are to cost them or how much they might be entitled to receive from their partners, they need calculators, which again time-consuming to figure out where to find them in the first place.

Competitive Analysis
There are some tools that are available on the market to help users draft the legal forms. But these tools are either Expensive, narrow-sighted or too complicated, that only law practicing professionals can use them. To provide a platform for individuals with adequate tools and guidance to represent themselves in their contested or uncontested California family law matter. Simpli Divorce, steps in to fill this gap and enable users with a Do-IT-Yourself system that enables them to handle the process on their own.
Identifying User Personas
Keeping in mind that we are going to build platform that will be accessed by wide variety of people who comes with different backgrounds. Considering these factors, we have assumed various possibilities of scenarios and came up with the following personas:
User Journey Mapping
Based on the legal system, there will be two kinds of journeys that we usually witness, as follows:
1. Petitioner2. Respondent
Hence, we created the journey around these two type of users, one who drafts for filing a petition against the other and the other are who drafts to defend, against the petition.
Priority Matrix
I worked closely with the product team and collaborated on defining the core features the Simpli Divorce Platform would include to ensure clarity and consistency would be established for anyone referring to a particular feature.
Information Architecture
After the features were defined, I created the Information Architecture by organizing the features into a usable platform.
Visual Design
An end-to-end family law court forms drafting solution to make this process easy and saves time for the petitioner/respondent. As they can choose the forms online at their convenience and start drafting.
To make sure that the petitioner/respondent is drafting the forms in the right way, Simpli Divorce’s core features Form Angel and Law Angel will guide them through.
To help the petitioner/respondent calculate and understand the financials and responsibilities that will be equally distributed among them, the calculators such as “Moore Marsden, Property Divider, Child Custody and Arrears calculators” are just a click away.
